AmeriCorps members tackle American communities' toughest challenges. In addition to recruiting and training thousands of new volunteers, AmeriCorps members patrol streets and recreation areas; tutor and mentor high-risk youth; organize block watch organizations; assist crime victims and prevent crime; build affordable housing; help seniors live independently; immunize children; clean up rivers and streams; restore national and state parks; and provide emergency and long-term assistance to victims of natural disasters.
