Community Safety Program
We place a priority on conducting community
safety programs in Columbus neighborhoods through our AmeriCorps
Community Safety Program. Our initiatives are designed to revitalize
neighborhoods through the promotion of crime prevention activities. The
programs cover a broad range of activities including developing inventories
of vacant housing, beautifying blighted conditions, assisting neighborhoods
in establishing a systematic dialogue with police, helping neighbors identify
"hot spots" for action by police or code enforcement, and building
playgrounds. Assistance in the development of block watch groups is a
focus in all neighborhoods.
Community Building
We do not just build houses, we develop and revitalize communities.
By combining development of single-family lease option homes, rehab of
existing and boarded up homes, and the development of houses for sale we improve
neighborhoods. The AmeriCorps Community Safety Program is involved
in the communities where we build by developing block watch programs
and coordinating community beautification activities.
Community building also occurs in our apartment communities. Through
generous private contributions, we have developed a computer learning center
at Pheasant Run, where both children and adults participate in training
programs. Childrens Savings Clubs are also provided to increase
economic literacy skills for children living in these communities.
